Addressing Domestic and Family Violence
Central Synagogue is a proud participant in New York City’s Domestic/Family Violence and Faith in Action Weekend. February 9th-11th, synagogues, churches, mosques, and temples throughout New York are addressing the subject of domestic and family violence.

Installation of Cantor Daniel Mutlu
On Friday, January 26, our congregation gathered to celebrate the installation of Cantor Daniel Mutlu as senior cantor. One of our Vice Presidents, Shonni Silverberg, presented Cantor Mutlu with a tallit embroidered with an excerpt from the week's Torah portion, which goes by the nickname Shabbat Shirah, Shabbat of Song. Cantor Multu talked about how his grandfather hounded his childhood synagogue to hire him as the cantor, long before Cantor Mutlu knew he wanted to be a cantor, and accidentally talked him into the career. Rabbi Buchdahl, Rabbi David Lyon of Congregation Beth Israel of Houston, and Rabbi Jordan Millstein of Temple Sinai of Bergen County shared powerful words of praise for Cantor Mutlu.

Family Trip to Israel, December 2017
Just this past week, Rabbi Lorge and Rabbi Rosenthal returned from leading a congregational trip to Israel. The group, made up of Central families, explored both the historical and religious significance of the beautiful country. From the old stones of Jerusalem to the mystical city of Tsfat, they left no stone unturned as they discovered the wonder of Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel.

The Mishkan: A New Shabbat Morning Experience
"Experiencing Shabbat morning prayer in an intimate setting with more time for Torah study and musical exploration, led by amazing clergy and shaliach tzibur (community leader), has added immeasurably to the spiritual breadth of my Jewish observance." This thought from Karen Chaikin beautifully sums up the goal of The Mishkan, a participatory service that features a deeper dive into the Shabbat morning prayers.
