Addressing Domestic and Family Violence

February 4, 2018 | General News | Repairing the World

Central Synagogue is a proud participant in New York City’s Domestic/Family Violence and Faith in Action Weekend. #NYCFaithInActionAgainstDV

February 9th-11th, synagogues, churches, mosques, and temples throughout New York City addressed the subject of domestic and family violence.

Share messages of awareness or support on social media by using the hashtags #NYCFaithInActionAgainstDV.

The following information comes from our colleagues at the Jewish Board: Family violence and domestic violence involves physical and emotional abuse by one person against another in a home or family environment. It can affect individuals and families of every economic status, race, religion, age, and culture, and can result in severe injury and trauma. Child abuse can often occur in the same families.

You might be experiencing family violence or domestic violence if you or a family member: physically abuses you, embarrasses or shames you with put-downs, keeps or discourages you from seeing friends or family members, tells you that you are a bad parent or threatens to hurt, kill, or take away your children, and takes your money or refuses to give you money for expenses.
