RAC NY and the Climate Covenant

In the Spring of 2022, RAC-NY launched Climate Covenant: A RAC-NY Campaign to Combat Climate Change with the goal of bringing together Reform Jews and to join with others across lines of race, faith, and class in joint action to end our dependence on fossil fuels and stop climate change. The stakes are high, and the potential benefit for all of us is great. Read more about the two- to three- year Climate Covenant campaign.

Read a one-page fact sheet about the RAC-NY-supported bills to decrease natural gas use in buildings.

Central Climate Initiative

The Central Climate Initiative consists of climate concerned teens from the Central Synagogue community. Their goal is to educate people about the importance of climate change and to improve the sustainability of our Synagogue, city, and statewide community.

The Renewable Rikers Act

Introduced in the City Council on June 13, 2019, co-sponsored by Council Members Constantinides, turns our vision into policy. The three bills create a framework to work toward reaching our State and Citywide climate goals through a renewable, regenerative, and restorative post-carceral Rikers Island.

In February 2021, the three bills that comprise the Renewable Rikers Act passed with overwhelming support in the City Council and were signed into law by the Mayor. But our work is just beginning – to advance this transformation on the fastest possible timeline, with the greatest possible benefits to impacted communities.
