I am writing to share the bittersweet news that Rabbi Nicole Auerbach has accepted a new position and will be leaving Central at the end of June. She will be joining the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) in an important new position as the Associate Director of Community Building and Leadership.

A Message from Clergy: Supporting Israeli Democracy
Prime Minister Netanyahu has just announced that he will delay his plans to overhaul the judiciary. We are grateful that democracy – and the voices of hundreds of thousands of Israelis who demand and defend it – has prevailed, but we know the conflict is far from being resolved. Like many of you, we will continue to watch the evolving situation closely with a combination of trepidation and hope.

From Central Synagogue to Israel’s Maccabi Games: An Interview with Athlete Nina Markovsky
If you looked for Central Synagogue member Nina Markovsky in Winter 2019, you might have found her chanting from our bimah for her Bat Mitzvah. In the Summer of 2022, you would have found Nina in quite a different Jewish venue: fencing for Team USA in Israel at the Maccabi Games, the world’s largest Jewish youth sports event.

Update: Rabbi Sheldon Zimmerman Expulsion
In February of 2023, Sheldon Zimmerman was expelled from the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the Reform movement’s Rabbinic body. This followed our congregation’s investigation in 2020/21 that confirmed allegations of predatory sexual behavior.
