A Look at Our History: Purim 1963

March 5, 2014 | General News

This year in March we celebrate Purim, the holiday during which we reenact the tale of the courage of Esther to save the Jews. In this 1963 photograph, Central Synagogue’s Religious School students dressed in their costumes for their performance. Even though they are playing their historical parts, their formality also reflects their own time. To the left,  reflecting the styles popular in 1960s, is a menorah, which was printed on each page of the 1963 Central Synagogue information booklet.

These monthly historical briefs are prepared by Amy Goldberger, Chair of the Archives Committee and Anne Mininberg, Archivist. To submit a photo or historical document to our Archives, email us.
