Central Celebrates Pride
Central Celebrates Pride
Central is blessed by the perspectives and presence of LGBTQ+ Clergy, congregants, guest speakers, families, and staff year-round, and Pride Month is a meaningful time of celebration and reflection for our community. Our religion—as well as Jewish history—compel us to help build a world in which every human is entitled to freedom, respect, safety, care, and love. This year, as legal challenges to LGBTQ+ rights continue to mount across the nation, celebrating Pride feels especially significant. As always, we affirm our belief that God wants each of us to live and love as our authentic selves.
The rainbow flag seems an especially resonant symbol for Pride at this moment. Rainbows help us perceive that light isn’t a monolithic phenomenon, but a beautiful and dynamic spectrum. So it is with life and love. In our tradition, the rainbow takes on yet another layer of meaning in the story of Noah’s Ark, representing God’s promise that humankind will never again be destroyed. For Jews, the rainbow evokes hope. It is an affirmation of humanity, and the possibility of a new and better world.
May we honor and uplift all ways to live and love in the beautiful and dynamic spectrum, and may we do our part to help build a new and better world—throughout Pride Month, and all year long. We are proud to offer opportunities to learn and participate in community events, and recognize and amplify the voices of the LGBTQIA+ members of our own community. Here's what we have in store:

Show Your Support for LGBTQ+ Protections
At Central, we are committed to being an open tent—a place that welcomes all people, including those who have been historically and institutionally marginalized or excluded from the Jewish community. This Pride, we are proud to join religious people across the country in support of The Equality Act, which would make non-discrimination protections a reality for LGBTQ+ people in employment, housing, education, and more. Learn more and tell your senators why they should support this life-saving legislation.

Windsor before the Supreme Court, which effectively legalized same-sex marriage nationwide) and Rabbi Amy Morrison (a named plaintiff challenging Florida House Bill 1557, widely known as the "Don't Say Gay" Bill) for a not-to-be-missed conversation with Rabbi Hilly Haber about Rabbi Morrison's current legal battle and the status of LGBTQ rights in America.
