Program Manager for Adult Programs

Job Summary/Objective:

The Program Manager for Adult Programs will be a part of the Adult Engagement team. Working with the Director of Adult Education, this person will also be responsible for the day-to-day logistics for all adult programs. This includes speakers, performances, mini-series, lunch & learn programs, and evening special events. This individual will also work closely with lay leaders, staff, and outside organizations to create and support meaningful learning opportunities for our members. This individual will collaborate and contribute to the overall goals of the Adult Engagement team and may also be responsible for collaborating on a range of adult engagement opportunities throughout the calendar year.

Reports to: Rabbi Sarah Berman, Rabbi and Director of Adult Education

Department Hours: Full-time, exempt and not eligible for OT, Monday through Thursday 9:00-5:30 and Friday

9:00 - 4:30 or equivalent, occasional evenings, expected to work some of the High Holy Days. Central Synagogue employees are not eligible for fully remote work.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  1. Program development & execution
    1. In collaboration with the Director of Adult Education, this person is responsible for creating meaningful and creative adult programming for a wide range of congregants and community members. These programs may be in person, virtual, or multi-access, depending on the nature of the program.
    2. The ideal candidate will oversee each program from conception to post-event evaluation, including budgeting and payment, registration, communications, vendor relationships and facilities needs.  During programs they will work to ensure smooth execution, and be the primary point-person for facilities, security, A/V staff, presenter/performer, and guests. For large events, they may manage additional staff assigned to the event.
  2. Communications
    1. Working closely with our Communications Department, this person will come up with a communications strategy for each program.  They will be the primary source of information regarding each program and help create compelling communications to reach the appropriate target audience. 
    2. They will also determine which programs should be featured on our YouTube channel, and make sure they are put up in a timely fashion.
  3. Technology
    1. This person will identify and implement ways for technology to improve access to and quality of our public programs.
    2. They will manage and host Zoom-based programs, update the relevant sections of our website, oversee registration, and create and manage all data in Zoom, Salesforce, Blackthorn and/or Wufoo.
    3. They will work closely with key departments (e.g., Finance and IT).
  4. Relationship-building
    1. As a public face of Central Synagogue, this person will build relationships with members of our community, with an eye toward helping them become more deeply connected.  They will support members who may need help accessing programs and make referrals to our pastoral care team and other resources when appropriate.
    2. This person will develop and maintain relationships with outside individuals and institutions, in order to maintain and widen our network of presenters and program partners. They will keep an eye out for new and innovative programs in the larger community, so that we can bring the best to Central Synagogue.
  5. Other duties
    1. Collaborate with other members of the Adult Engagement and Clergy teams to execute assigned duties, including support of small groups, social justice, member events, and other programs as needed.
    2. Act as source of information and support for congregants interested in all Adult Engagement activities.


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years relevant work experience in a role serving members, the public, and other stakeholders; Jewish or cultural institutional setting preferred
  • Experience in program creation and project management
  • Technology: High level of computer literacy required (we use Windows): proven ability to quickly learn new software. Experience with SalesForce or similar CRM, knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams a plus
