Director of Digital Strategy

Job Summary/Objective:

The Marketing and Communications Department at Central Synagogue overseas all outreach, marketing and communications related to members of the synagogue, those who attend its classes and events, and its large global audience of Reform Jews and other community members. Led by a Chief of Marketing and Communications, this six-person team is deeply integrated across all levels of the organization working to launch initiatives, reach varied audiences, raise the visibility of programs, and convey mission-aligned messages in a collaborative approach with colleagues and organizational partners.

The role of the Director of Digital Strategy is to develop and drive the strategy for Central’s digital engagement effort – one of three key strategic initiatives. This person will work closely with the Chief of Marketing and Communications, Clergy, lay leaders, and our digital agency, to develop a work plan, goals, and objectives for immediate implementation. A key priority for this role will be the strategic amplification of High Holy Day content (sermons, worship) on Central’s various social platforms and website.

This person will be highly knowledgeable of social media, email marketing and digital strategy. They will have demonstrated ability to drive measurable impact for medium to large member-based organizations and passionate about strengthening member engagement. This person will own the organization’s social strategy and be responsible for all KPIs (having had input in determining them). This person is always thinking ahead on behalf of the organization and making data-informed recommendations for growing Central’s digital reach.

Full-time; Exempt and not eligible for OT

General hours are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Director of Digital Strategy will be expected to work additional hours as needed during the High Holidays each year.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Central’s digital reach initiative (specific scope of work to be determined with your input) serving the dual role of visionary and implementer.
  • Responsible for the successful development and execution of a social strategy and website strategy with support from five other professionals on the Marketing and Communications team
  • Ability to draft successful plans and deliver results.
  • Ability to make ‘big concepts’ understandable and actionable for lay leaders, Clergy, and staff clearly. 
  • Ability to articulate goals and drive action.
  • Responsible for KPIs related to digital reach.

Core Competencies:

  • Deep and proven experience driving successful digital strategy for member-based organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends and ever-evolving best practices
  • Proven experience working with senior leaders on large-scale projects.
  • Ability to earn trust, inspiring others to seek your counsel and input.
  • Ability to deliver results and motivate others to do the same.
  • Possess strong judgment.
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills
  • Self-directed, takes initiative and problem solves with little supervision.

Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience leading digital strategy in results-driven environment
  • Experience working within a membership organization (nonprofit experience a plus)
  • Experience with Content Management Systems
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM
  • Experience with social and digital marketing tools
  • Change management experience a plus
  • Flexible schedule, including ability to work some evenings and weekends, if needed
  • Familiarity with Jewish customs and communities is a plus

The expected salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000. Central Synagogue offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community. The salary is commensurate with experience based on several factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, areas of specialization, and depth and scope of experience. The above salary range represents the Synagogue’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation range at the time of posting.

Additional Information: 

Central Synagogue requires all staff members (full-time AND part-time) to (a) provide proof of vaccination and booster against COVID-19 or (b) obtain an approved exemption as an accommodation. Hybrid Schedule: One day remote on either Monday or Friday and four days in the office.
