Each June, we have the opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, honor their activism and culture, commemorate their struggles and losses, and recommit ourselves to upholding freedom and equality for all. At Central, we are proud to offer opportunities for learning, to participate in community events, and recognize and lift the voices of the LGBTQIA+ members of our own community. Here’s what we have in store:
Rabbi Haber brings together athletes, activists, and policy experts from Changing the Game and Athlete Ally for a panel discussion about transgender inclusion in sports, the intersections of Jewish identity and gender identity, and how we can create safer and more affirming spaces for trans youth.
Join us for a special Coffee With Clergy conversation between Rabbi Nicole Auerbach, her sibling, Bonz Swencionis (they/them), and Rabbi Dr. Nikki Deblosi (she/her) about the importance of creating Jewish spaces that embrace people with non-binary gender identities.
Come for an intimate conversation with Abby Stein, the author of Becoming Eve: My Journey from Ultra-Orthodox Rabbi to Transgender Woman, and hear her journey from being born and raised in a Hasidic family of rabbinic descent, completing a rabbinical degree, and leaving the Hasidic world to explore a self-determined life.
Let us come together as a community as we kick off NYC Pride weekend with a special Shabbat service. Join Central’s clergy and LGBTQIA+ Core Group for an evening of celebration, pride, and prayer.
Join Central’s LGBTQIA+ Core Group, Cantor Mutlu, and Rabbi Haber for a special community havdalah celebration featuring multigenerational stories of coming out experiences from Central community members. We will celebrate queer joy and life across generations.
LGBTQ Central is a forum for you to connect with a Jewish LGBTQ community. Meetings provide an opportunity to network, share experiences, engage in social activities, participate in community and social justice events, and maintain visibility within the larger Central community. We’d love to meet you!
Help our Synagogue continue to shine brightly as a force of optimism and hope by donating to our annual campaign. Your gift will help support everything that makes Central unique and special.
