Yerushalayim Shel Matah: Exploring Yom Yerushalayim 2023

Wednesday, May 17, 12:30 pm

Virtual (Zoom)

Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) marks the day the holy city was conquered by Israeli forces during the Six Day War. What was intended as a modest prayer service by the Chief Rabbinate to mark this historic event resulted in thousands of Israelis spontaneously flooding the streets in celebration – a practice that has continued to this day.

This Yom Yerushalayim, join Cantor-Rabbi Shani Ben-Or and Reshut Harabim (a forum of thirty-eight Jewish renaissance organizations in Jerusalem) for a special program framing the narrative around the holiday, with an emphasis on the city's diversity and pluralistic potential.

Program Schedule:

12:30 PM – Mitzion Teitzeh Torah: See a sneak peek behind the scenes of the interfaith prayer initiative, featuring Cantor-Rabbi Shani Ben-Or and special guests.

1:00 PM – Join a diverse Israeli audience for a unique, multi-faith prayer for Jerusalem’s future. Led by Rabbi Tamar Elad-Appelbaum, Kehilat Zion’s incredible musical ensemble, and local interfaith spiritual leaders.
