Why Israel? Revisiting the Meaning of Zionism

Thursdays, October 27–November 17, 2022, 2:00–3:30 pm

Virtual

Join Rabbi Lauren Berkun in a community of learners to explore the newest Torah and ideas from Hartman’s iEngage Research Project. In this four-session course, we will probe the question of “Why Israel?” Why should Israel matter to a 21st century North American Jew? What are some of the most meaningful spiritual and moral visions for Israel today, and how can we engage in a nuanced, pluralistic conversation about them? In addition to the weekly classes, Rabbi Berkun will hold virtual office hours on Mondays from 12:00–1:00pm ET for anyone who wants to join for questions and further conversation. Central Synagogue members are also invited to a private weekly debrief and discussion session with Rabbi Berkun on Fridays from 2:00–3:00pm ET (Oct. 28, Nov. 4, Nov. 11, Nov. 18).
