The Fight for Gay Rights in America: An Evening with the Lawyer Challenging Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Law

Wednesday, July 6, 2022, 7:00–8:15 pm

Hybrid: Central Synagogue Pavilion and Zoom

Join renowned litigator Robbie Kaplan and Rabbi Amy Morrison for a conversation with Rabbi Hilly Haber about the current state of LGBTQ rights in America. Their conversation will focus on Robbie's current legal fight in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida challenging Florida House Bill 1557 (widely known as the “Don’t Say Gay” law). Rabbi Morrison is a named plaintiff in this case.

Robbie is perhaps best known for successfully arguing before the United States Supreme Court on behalf of her client Edith Windsor in United States v. Windsor, the landmark Supreme Court case. In Windsor, the Supreme Court ruled that a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violated the U.S. Constitution by barring legally married same-sex couples from enjoying the wide-ranging benefits of marriage conferred under federal law. This conversation is not to be missed!
