Mystical Devotions: Sufism with Dr. Hussein Rashid

Thursdays, June 9–June 30, 2022, 10:00–11:15 am

Virtual

Mystical approaches to the Divine span religions and time periods. We all seek ways of connecting to God. This course introduces students to Sufism, an approach to Islam that emphasizes a personal and intimate approach to the Divine. We will begin with a broad history and understanding of Sufism (a Muslim mystical practice, comparable to Kabbalah) in broader Muslim contexts. Then, the course will focus on aspects of Sufi devotion, focusing on poetry and music.
