Shonim B’yachad: Different Together

Fridays, October 21, 2022 – January 2, 2023, 5:00–6:00 pm

In-Person: Pavilion

The Shonim B’Yachad (Different Together) exhibition is part of an artistic and education project whose goal is the advancement of the values of pluralism, equality, accepting the other, and shared existence in Israeli society. The moving, thoughtful, and sometimes provocative art works in this show were created by students from diverse ethnic backgrounds representing all educational sectors in Israel, as well as students and adults with disabilities. This exhibition also includes works of youth from Central Synagogue’s current 9th and 10th graders, also celebrating individual identity and the diversity within the Jewish world. All of the artists—no matter where they are from—teach us that in order to be ready to accept those who are different from us, we must first learn self-acceptance; through self-acceptance we can celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of ourselves and those around us.

In Israel, "Shonim B’yachad" is an initiative of the Daniel Centers for Progressive Judaism (Tel Aviv), headed by Rabbi Meir Azari. The Israeli project is an extension of "Embracing Our Differences", a project that was launched over a decade ago in Sarasota, Florida. This exhibition includes works that were exhibited publicly in Jaffa in the last year, including two by Central students.

This exhibit includes a total of twenty art works –eleven of the Israeli pieces currently displayed at Beit Daniel Synagogue in Tel Aviv; and the nine pieces made during the last school year by Central’s current 9th and 10th graders.
