In Sondheim’s Eyes: Ted Sperling, Dave Strickland, and Misa Iwama in (Musical) Conversation

Monday, July 25, 2022, 7:00–8:15 pm

In-Person (Sanctuary) & Virtual

To experience Sondheim’s musical genius is to find heartache, jubilation, longing, and love brought to life in glorious orchestrations and soaring melodies. What might it mean, though, to dig deeper into the complex musical language(s) that makes his songs sing? Why do Sondheim’s scores feel so alive? To answer these questions, we’re thrilled to welcome Tony Award-winning orchestrator & music director (and longtime Sondheim collaborator) Ted Sperling to Central. Sperling will be joined in conversation and at the piano by Central Synagogue’s Music Director David Strickland and Assistant Music Director and Alto Misa Iwama (and you!) for a scintillating evening of story and song.

This program will be presented in person at Central Synagogue & registration is required for in-person attendance.

Additionally, the program will be available to watch via digital livestream on the Central Synagogue livestream page. Registration is recommended but not required for virtual viewing of this program.

In Sondheim’s Eyes is part of our ongoing Summer of Sondheim series, celebrating the life and legacy of the late, great Stephen Sondheim.
