Blessings - Brachot - A Roadmap To Our Amazing World with Joe Septimus (Part Two)
Wednesdays, January 11–February 8, 2023, 6:00–7:00 pm
Blessings (Brachot in Hebrew) are expressions of relationship, thanks, and hope in a micro sense, and a life view of gratitude and appreciation in a macro sense. We bless our children, we bless one another, God blesses us, we bless God, God we bless Shabbat (time), and we bless our circumstances. In life the opportunity to bless is everywhere, and Judaism asks us to see, appreciate and express. In this course, we will explore Biblical and Talmudic stories and passages that reference the concepts surrounding Brachot, and attempt to develop definition and constructs of whether Bracha (singular) is: 1. An expression of gratitude, 2. An articulation that creates impact and outcome, 3. A religious ritual, or 4. All the above. English texts will be provided. This is a continuation of Joe's Fall 2022 course, but new students are welcome.
