Megillat Mordekhai: A Topsy-Turvy Purim Story

Thursday, March 21, 2024, 7:30–8:30 pm

Virtual (Zoom)

Purim is coming, and Central Synagogue is celebrating by flipping the script – or the spiel! Alongside our exhibition Toratah: The Artistry of Transformation, Beit Toratah founder and artist Yael Kanarek will spin us the topsy-turvy tale of Megillat Moredekhai, featuring Queen Akhashveroshni, King Vashta, and an Esther and Mordekhai whose roles may surprise you. Together, we’ll delve into the text with chavruta-style (group) learning and explore how regendering the characters offers a fresh perspective on this beloved story. For those attending in person, be sure to come hungry for some delicious “Hamani”taschen!
