The Prohibition-era gangsters Meir Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, and Arnold Rothstein were all prominently featured in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. While the show was set in Atlantic City, their base of operations in the criminal under world was here in New York, and the city itself played an essential role in their organizations. We will see where these Jewish criminals engaged in their nefarious activities and discuss the issues of power, ethics, and acculturation that ensued.
