Jennifer Benrey, a Miami Beach native, is uniquely shaped by her Reform Jewish upbringing intertwined with the customs and culture of her Cuban Turkish Sephardic family. She is currently in her 4th year of cantorial school at HUC-JIR’s Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Florida State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree in Choral Music. She had the pleasure of teaching Jewish and secular music (and math) in Miami in various capacities prior to her cantorial studies while also serving as the assistant conductor of two Jewish community choirs and leading services regularly at several synagogues across Miami. For the past two years, she has served as the student cantor of Temple Beth-El in Jersey City, where she currently lives, and will join Temple Israel Reform Congregation of Staten Island as their student cantor in the fall. She has spent her past few summers working as a Jewish Educator at Camp Hess Kramer in Malibu, CA and as a cantorial intern at Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach, FL. She is so delighted to be joining the Central Synagogue family this summer.
