Maintenance & Events Staff Person

Job Summary/Objective
Maintains the buildings interiors/exteriors in a clean and orderly manner; performs a variety of custodial and building maintenance duties as directed. Sets up and breaks down events at the facilities as directed, and performs related work as required. This position is responsible for the safe and daily operations of the facilities.

Hours

  • Full Time, Schedule may Fluctuate, May be required to work Fridays and Saturdays for Services, Weekends, Holidays and High Holidays.
  • Non-Exempt and eligible for OT over 40 hours per week with the supervisor’s approval.

Maintenance and Events Staff Person:

  • Sweeps, scrubs and mops floors; vacuums and cleans rugs;
  • Washes, dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, pictures and shelves;
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleans walls, fountains, windows and restrooms;
  • Replenishes supplies; turns out lights and locks doors and windows;
  • Reports necessary repairs;
  • May perform a variety of building maintenance tasks;
  • Moving materials;
  • Assists in the operation of the Nursery and Religious Schools;
  • Available for special events and High Holy Days;
  • Promptly informs management of any injury, safety and/or security issues.

Core Competencies:

  • The methods, materials and equipment used in events, janitorial and building maintenance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain a safe and hazard free work environment for the Staff, Students, Clergy, Congregation, and fellow employees.
  • Report any suspicious/illegal activity to a supervisor and/or Security immediately.

Communication:

  • To perform a variety of manual tasks; follow oral and written directions; plan and complete assigned duties on a regular schedule; maintain good working relationships with others. Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

The Associate Teacher is a member of the Central Synagogue May Family Nursery School teaching team who shares in the education, care, and well-being of his or her assigned group of students. Under the guidance of the Nursery School administration, the Associate Teacher is required to implement planned curriculum, participate in team meetings and to uphold the objectives and overall philosophy of the Central Synagogue May Family Nursery School. The Associate Teacher works closely with the head teacher/s and reports to the Early Childhood Director.
